Description

of bud form, raised on a short foot, covered in a rich lavender glaze thining at the rim to an olive green, revealing the buff coloured body, the glaze trailing over the footrim, exposing the burnt orange unglazed body

Condition

The water pot is in overall good condition. It has very light overall rubbing and few minor scratches to the glaze.

Catalogue Note

A 'Jun' lotus bud waterpot of this elegant form, distinctive glaze and small size, from the British Rail Pension Fund and exhibited on loan at the Dallas Museum of Art between 1985-1988, was sold in these rooms, 12th December 1989, lot 85.

A similar waterpot is illustrated in Regina Krahl, Chinese Ceramics from the Meiyintang Collection, vol. 1, London, 1994, pl. 393, together with a vessel of this form but decorated with purple splashes, pl. 392; another, also with a plain blue glaze, in the Baofeng County Cultural Relics Bureau, is included in Ruyao de xin faxian, Beijing, 1991, pl. 107; and one was sold in these rooms, 14th November 2000, lot 139.
