Description

modelled standing four-square on a rectangular base, the head raised with nostrils flared and mouth open, the broad arching neck with straw-glazed mane swept to the side and falling over the rich ochre-glazed body, the unglazed saddle and saddle cloth with traces of red and black pigment 

Provenance

The result of Oxford Authentication Thermoluminescence Test no. 566e38, dated April 1990, is consistent with the dating of this piece.

Condition

The horse is in good overall condition with the exception of: restoration to both ears and possibly a small area of retouching (ca. 0.2cm) above the horse's right eye. Very minor glaze flaking and minor scratches and encrustation consistent with burial.
