Description

with deep rounded sides supported on three short feet issuing from scrollwork, flanked at the sides by a pair of ferocious dragon-head handles, each suspending a loose ring, surmounted by a cover with a finely carved and reticulated finial in the form of a snarling dragon, its slender coiled body writhing in pursuit of a 'flaming pearl', the stone of an even translucent tone and unctuous glossy texture, wood stand

Condition

The censer and cover are in good condition overall, with the exception of very superficial nibbles to the rim of censer and cover. There are two small white inclusions to the stone on one side of the handle, of approx 0.3 by 0.2cm. There are two short natural fissures to the stone on the dragon cover, one to the whisker, the other to the horn.
