Provenance

Sotheby's Hong Kong, 16th November 1989, lot 640.

Condition

The plaque is in very good condition overall. There is a minute nibble to the hanging rock below one figure. There is a natural fissure to the stone which runs down from the top, almost half way down the plaque on the front. The fissure is also visible on the reverse, running approx two-thirds down from the top. There are a couple more shorter natural fissures to the reverse bottom. The carving is sharper and finer than the illustration suggests. There are chips to the stand concentrated to the sides, some areas of which have been reinforced.
