the moulded handles shaped as multiple acanthus leaves, the terminals shaped as rams heads, decorated with cartouches of figures in neo-gothic style, one depicting a young painter seated behind his easel, asking his companion's advice, the other with a courting couple, the painter holding his drawing board, seated in an italianate garden, the vases set on square plinths painted with roses on an imitation-marble green ground, the reverse of the vases decorated with a matt gilt stylised floral centrepiece
