A Paris two-handled vase
circa 1810
finely decorated with an allegorical scene of Hope rendered as a young woman dressed in Classical robes praying, a putto resting on her knee, an anchor to her side and a ship on the distant horizon, the reverse with a still life with flowers in a porphyry vase set on a blue marble slab flanked by colums and drapery, each within oval gilt cartouches decorated with burnished cornucopia and a flute, flanked by griffins on plinths moulded with Classical masks, the olive-green neck and socle highlighted with gold instruments and foliage in Classical style, the whole supported on a square gilt base with bands of tooled foliage
