Description

  • incised crossed swords mark within a triangle and model number H.24
  • 26cm., 10 1/4 in.
possibly modelled by Johann Carl Schönheit, Saturn seated on a rectangular plinth by a truncated column covered with drapery, tying a bow at the end of a long rose garland, with Cupid kneeling at his feet by his quiver and bow on the oval base, edged with a continuous Vitruvian scroll

Catalogue Note

Although this group is not mentioned in Schönheit's work records, the companion group of Saturn and Cupid is recorded as having been modelled by him between January and April 1783; see T.H. Clarke, op.cit., p.41, no.124, for J.J.F. Elsasser's engraving of the model.
