modelled by Peter Reinicke, holding scales and a basket of grapes, wearing a black tricorn, yellow jacket over a puce waistcoat and lavender breeches and black shoes, the tree-stump shaded in green and brown, the base applied with leaves and moulded with gilt-edged scrollwork
indistinct crossed swords mark in underglaze-blue to rear of base

Catalogue Note

After the drawing by Christophe Huet of 1753, inscribed: 'Nr 10 Ch - ein Bauer mit grauem Hut, welcher Weintrauben nach Gewicht verkauft. N 18 1753' [...a peasant with grey hat, who sells grapes by weight...]; for which see M.Eberle, op.cit., no.42.
