Catalogue Note

Only two similarly marked examples have appeared for sale - both at Sotheby's in London. The first on 1st November 1982, lot 82 (later resold on 16th October 1989, lot 44, £5,000) and the second sold 10th February 1986, lot 142. A decanter and blue-tinted rinser also bearing this mould-blown mark can be found in the National Museum of Ireland, Dublin. With the present lot, these appear to be the only extant examples bearing this rare mark (see P.Warren, Irish Glass, pl.22a). It is now thought that Armstrong was probably a retailer rather than a glassmaker.
