the tapering form painted in colours with a gallant and his lady plighting their troth with a toast, between them a horseshoe and hammer, symbols either of good luck or a Blacksmith Guild, and the date 1601, all flanked by lilies-of-the-valley and the inscription Gott sei bei uns beitten, in Trübsal und in Freiden - deñ uns sol nimandt deñ der bit, fer Golt von einander scheiden, applied scroll handle, replacement silver cover and footring
