- Portrait of the artist in a black coat and hat
- oil on canvas
- 20 1/8 by 17 in.

Condition
Lined canvas. The surface shows a layered varnish: an old coat on the areas towards the extreme edges and a newer, shinier varnish on the figure and the area immediate around the head, thus creating a shiny halo. There is fine craquelure to face, hat and ruff. A stretcher mark along the bottom edge has been retouched; other visible retouches on his cheeks. Under UV light: retouching to cheeks, hat, background around figure and the repaired paint loss along the bottom edge; older inpainting on the dark side of the face is obscured by varnish.
