Condition
The catalogue illustration is representative. The canvas has been well relined. Under a clean and recent varnish. Beautiful retention of detail, color and brushwork. Some darker pigments, for example the far right drapery, have thinned however overall this is not distracting. Some small retouches to her arms and right foot are visible to the naked eye.
UV light shows strenghtening to the faces of both figures and her forearms and pillow. There are strengthenings to the drapery throughout. A half inch of retouching runs down the left edge, proabably froma previous framing. Overall very presentable and in reasonable condition. All retouches have been very well applied and the present painting can be hnug as is.
In a gilt, carved wooden frame.
