Description
- A rare figural group of St. George slaying the dragon
- base signed, `F Preiss'
- 18.5cm. high;
- 7¼in.
ivory, the finely carved and detailed figures depcting the saint on horseback above the beast, on a Siena marble base
Condition
An unusual model of good overall appearance. The right leg of the horse has been re-affixed as has his sword and the lance piercing the dragon. Ivory in excellent condition overall with very slight typical discolouration to the reverse. Underside of base with small area of filler but this appears to be to a natural fissure.
