- 'Grecian Maidens Supporting Bowl': a fine figural centrepiece
- onyx base signed, 'F. Preiss', bronze base with 'PK' foundry seal
- 22.3cm. high;
- 8¾in.
bronze, ivory and onyx, modelled as four naked young women supporting arched pediments cast with flowers between onyx bowl and octagonal foot
Literature
A conforming model without the onyx foot is illustrated, Alberto Shayo, Ferdinand Preiss, Art Deco Sculptor, The fire and the flame, Woodbridge, 2005, p.117.
Condition
A rare and desirable model of good overall appearance. Onyx in good condition with only one or two minute chips. Typical minor old marks, blemishes and scratches to the bronze. One figure with a crack to the reverse of her right elbow, but this is not vivible top the front. Each figure with one or two typical minor cracks up the sides of their bodies, but these are not too distracting and typical of ivories of this date. Faces and hands in good condition. Overall a well carved example and in good condition.
