Condition

A stylish set. Old marks, scratches and knocks in places, such as to top. Veneer slightly crazed and cracked consistent with age. One or two small areas of restoration and retouching. Desk: Upper section is detachable. The reverse of the desk is veneered whereas the reverse of the upper cabinet section is not, which may suggest that the upper section was added later. There are further signs of some alterations to the underside of the top, where the boards are of different colours. Sides and reverse of cabinet doors with fine scratches overall. Upper section with small chips to edges commensurate with age. Gilt finish to light fitting worn. Light not tested or guaranteed for electricity. Chair: Of good structural condition. Loose cushion slightly dirty. The back of the chair is double caned, the reverse of which has two small holes. Overall, a striking and practical set showing typical signs of use which may benefit from cosmetic attention.
