la base carrée reposant sur quatre pieds griffes, moulurée d'une frise de feuillages, appliquée sur une face d'un trophée d'instruments d'architecte et sur l'autre d'une locomotive et d'un wagon, la coupe reposant sur un piédouche mouluré de feuillages, la coupe appliquée d'une frise de grappes de raisin et pampres de vigne enserrant deux médaillons, l'un appliqué des armes de la ville de Calais, l'autre gravé Témoignage de Reconnaissance/ Les Habitants de la ville de Calais à Mr H.C. Emmery Ingénieur en Chef Inspecteur des Eaux et Forêts/ Chemins de fer 1838, sertie dans une fausse-coupe ornée de palmettes et motifs floraux stylisés

Condition

In overall excellent condition. Probably later re gilt. A svisible on the catalogue, applied on one side with the coat-of-arms of the town of Calais, on the other side with the inscription explaining the gift from the town of Calais to the engineer Emery in 1838. One side of the square base is applied with a locomotive and wagon (as cab seen in the catalogue), on the other side a trophy with engineer tools such as meter, square, protractor, globe and compass. Marks : under the base, maker and silver marks very legible, on the cup border, silver mark legible, on the cup base, maker very legible. On the medium part ("fausse coupe"), maker very legible. Excellent quality.

Hippolyte-Pierre Bompard a travaillé à Paris entre le 13 octobre 1834 et le 7 janvier 1851. Son atelier se trouvait 79 quai de l'Horloge.
