Catalogue Note
Compare with the figure of Hercules, once attributed to the workshop of Niccolo Roccatagliata, in the Kunsthistorische Museum, Vienna, illustrated by Planiscig. The pose with the left hand on the hip, and the head turned to his right is unchanged. An exchange of attributes has transformed the subject's identity as Hercules's club is replaced by a handful of thunderbolts and an eagle is added to sit at Jupiter's feet.
