Catalogue Note

The present putto can be compared to a putto topping an andiron by Niccolò Roccatagliata in the Museo Nazionale, Florence, illustrated by Planiscig, fig. 663. Although the Museo Nationale putto holds thunderbolts in his raised left hand, whilst the lowered hands of the present putto carry a flaming urn, the other details of the figure are closely comparable. Note the pose with the proper right leg stepping forward, the slightly twisted torso and head turned to the left as well as the treatment of the head and hair.
