Catalogue Note
With his open book and his gaze fixed straight ahead the saint points his right hand down at the kneeling figure of a knight, possibly the donor figure, at his feet. The treatment of the drapery with soft rounded folds, the intricate decoration on the mitre and the vestments and the details on the armour, with the distinctive poleyn worn by the donor figure points to a date early in the 16th century between 1500 and 1520. Compare with sculpture emanating from Picardie as illustrated by P.Beguerie de Paepe.
