Description
- a limestone group of the Virgin and Child
holding lilies in her right hand and in her left the Christ child (head missing)
Catalogue Note
The agitated drapery beneath the mantle, the undulating strands of hair together with the heavy delineation of the eyes can be closely compared with the figure of the Virgin Annunciate on the retable of Chaource not far from Troyes. The Chaource retable is attributed to the Joinville-Vignory workshop active between 1393-1442. For a comprehensive discussion of this workshop see Hofmann.
