Description
- an ivory and tortoise-shell veneer casket
on wood carcase with silver mounts, the drop front opening to reveal nine interior drawers, with later key (2)
Condition
Overall the condition of this delicate tortoiseshell and ivory casket is remarkably good with some minor surface dirt and wear consistent with age.
There are two replaced ivory sections to the stringing, one to the interior of the drop panel around the central tortoiseshell section, and one to the base of the exterior of the panel.
There is some slight raising of the ivory in some sections, including raising to one strip on the interior of the drop panel, and a few places in the stringing around the central tortoiseshell sections on the proper right, left and front of the casket. There are a few minor losses and restorations to the ivory, including a small area of restoration to the stringing on the proper right side, a larger section of loss to the stringing on the back, and minor areas of loss to the stringing on the proper left side.
There are a few minor hairline splits to the tortoiseshell including two to the exterior of the front drop panel.
