  • a large wood and ivory figure of the Virgin Immaculata
standing on a crescent moon inhabited by cherubs heads, with ivory hands clasped in prayer and ivory head, the body with traces of original polychrome and gilding

Condition

There is an area of loss to the tip of the middle finger on the proper left hand. There are some minor hairline cracks to the ivory sections consistent with the material and age. The paint surface has been refreshed and is subject to cracking and flaking as visible in the catalogue photograph. There is an area of particular over-painting to the hair. The back section of the head has been carved separately and there is a hole at the back for the attachment of a halo. Another original section, carved separated, has been insterted at the Virgin's foot. There are some minor, stable cracks to the wood. A later rectangular section has been added to the back, over the orginal hollowed out section. Otherwise the condition is good.
