Description

  • a pair of agate candlesticks
with gilt copper mounts, base with canted corners and knopped stem, cylindrical nozzle

Provenance

Probably Sir Francis Child (1642-1713), Lincoln's Inn Fields, London
Thereafter by descent in the Child Family and thence to the Earl of Jersey, Osterley Park, Middlesex and Middleton Park, Oxfordshire.
George Child-Villiers, 9th Earl of Jersey and thence by descent to his daughter.

 

Condition

Overall the candlesticks are in very good condition. The first mount under the lip mount is loose on one candlestick and there is some minor wear to the gilding on the mounts, consistent with age.
