Description

  • a polychrome and gilt wood relief of Christ before Pilate
  • Austrian, circa 1615
Christ crowned with thorns, with hands bound and wearing a cloak, Pilate on the left presenting Him to the people

Condition

Much original polychrome but worn in parts. The relief is constructed of four joined parts which have been strengthened at the back. The left foot of Christ, the tip of His right foot and the tip of right foot of guard missing. Losses to fingers of Christ and right hand of guard missing as is evident in the catalogue photograph.
