Catalogue Note
The present group of the Virgin and Child can be compared to another in the Kelten Museum Hallein, dating to between 1450 and 1460. Note the treatment to the veil, draped over the head and across the chest of the Virgin. The faces, with large foreheads, rounded jowls and plump chins, are also close to those of the present group. Another comparison can be made with a Virgin and Child group in the Castello del Buonconsiglio, Trento dating to the same period. The Virgin's gown is pleated above and below the belt as in the present example and the distinctive Christ Child also strides forward on his left leg on the Virgin's knee.
