Condition

The canvas is relined. An old, very dirty discolored varnish. Consistent scattered paint loss throughout as well as blistering. Noticeable retouches in sky and Magdelene's face. Under UV light aforementioned retouches fluoresce as well as in Christ's body and the skull. Offered in a black painted wooden frame.

Catalogue Note

Possibly identifiable as Pieter van der Borcht the Elder (1545-1608), who was mostly known for his prints and drawings.
