A French porcelain and gilt bronze mounted centre table, Paris

circa 1890

veneered in tulipwood  and inlaid with nine porcelain plaques painted with elegant hunting parties, within a gilt border, the central plaque signed Varlet, the shaft of ebonised wood, baluster-shaped and flanked by two angels sounding trumpets, the floral bosses incised on the reverse A, centred on either side by armorial cartouches  charged  with a pseudo royal device in gold on porcelain plaques, on castors
height 83cm., top: 101 by 80.5 cm.
