Description

  • Joachim and Anna
  • oil on panel, a fragment(?), gessoed on the reverse
  • 70 by 36 cm.

Condition

The actual painting is softer in tone than the catalogue illustration suggests. The panel seems to consist of two planks joined vertically, but has slightly cracked down the centre, which has been reinforced by a strip of canvas to the reverse. The reverse is gessoed. One tiny paint loss can be seen lower centre, other wise the painted surface seems to be in very good condition. The painted surface is under a fine layer of dirt and discoloured varnish and has a fine craquelure pattern. Tiny scattered retouchings can be seen throughout. This is all confirmed under ultra violet light. Offered in a giltwood frame with black sides, small damages (ML).
