  • height 23.5cm
of baluster-shape, turned with three bands, finely engraved with rolling leaves, on the middle band the inscription 'O haat en nijt wat bent gij groot de trouwe liefde is nie doodt, dat ider hater braak sijn been hoe meenig sou men kruckken zien, laat haters haten en neijders neijden, dat Godt ons gunt moeten sy leijde', the raised medallion engraved with an armorial shield with baker's utensils, flanked by the inscription 'Wie sorgeloos hem verlaat, op bystand van syn vrinde, die sal hem in den noodt, deerlyk bedrooge vinde' and 'ik hadt een vrindt also mijn dogt, maar daar ik vrintschap bij hem zogt, doen waster nimant bij hem tuijs, nogtans bleef hij mijn Frindt quansuijs', the strap handle engraved with cross-hatching and remains of a crowned Tudor rose mark, the hinged and turned lid of a later date, the inside turned, dark silver grey patina
