Catalogue Note

Fritz Klimsch was commissioned by the great grandfather of the present owner to execute "Halleluja" in a monumental marble version to adorn the family chapel in the Donnerspark in Altona (with the well known pavilion of Gottfried Semper). Because of the death of the commissioner in 1911, this marble version unfortunately never was executed. Fritz Klimsch however did deliver the (pre-stage) wood version to the family; his visit to the estate of Lehmkuhlen in 1912 has been recorded (see also photograph). The figure has always been in the family since.

A(nother) marble version of 'Halleluja' (apparently from the 1940`s) has been sold at Van Ham Kunstauktionen, December 2nd , lot 357.
