Catalogue Note

The autograph letter signed is written in Dodgson's distinctive purple ink and asks the recipient permission to "lend Wace's pamphlet to Baynes, our Reader in Physics" and assures him that care will be taken. He then asks "is there any use in suggesting how much I should like to have you come to dine... any day next week" (2 pages, 12mo, [Christ Church, Oxford], 4 December [no year]), some creases.

Chandler was presumably Henry William Chandler (1828-1889), Waynflete professor of moral and metaphysical philosophy at Pembroke College. He was also a curator of the Bodleian library.

To All Child-Readers of Alice's Adventures in Wonderland [Williams, Madan, Green and Crutch 82] is also tipped-in.
