Catalogue Note

Ruskin's work had first been published in 1853 as a chapter within his The Stones of Venice. It had been at Sydney Cockerell's suggestion that Morris included it as a Kelmscott publication.

Morris' volume was the first Kelmscott book printed in 16mo. It was printed in public during October and November 1893 when a press was moved to the New Gallery for the annual Arts and Crafts exhibition.
