  • Group of five illuminated manuscripts by various calligraphers:
Hewitt, Graily. Sample for St. Paul's Restoration Fund, written in red and black, illuminated heading "Corporate Donations" incorporating initial, smaller illuminated initial on second page supplied by Ida Henstock, other initials and decorations in red and blue, 2 leaves, folio, written on rectos only, mounted on card, undated; Letter of thanks to the Emperor of Japan, written in black, initials and recipient's name in gold, 1 page, small folio, December 1910, mounted on card--Christie, H. Lawrence. 'Rabbi ben Ezra' by Robert Browning, written in red and black, the first page of text with illuminated initials and foliate decoration, other initials in green, 9 pages, 4to, on vellum, bound in imitation leather, undated; 'Saul' by Robert Browning, written in red, blue and black, title and initials in gold, 25 pages, 4to, bound in leather-backed boards, undated--Smith, Percy J.  'Caesaris Rubicone Visum', written in black, title in red, gold initial within blue decoration extended to lower margin, 1 page, small folio, mounted on card, [c.1906]; all on vellum (5)

Condition

Sample for St. Paul's Restoration Fund: slightly creased at edges. 'Rabbi ben Ezra': title on the upper cover somewhat faded. 'Saul': previous owner's label laid down on verso of title. 'Caesaris Rubicone Visum': very light marginal spotting. Endpapers of bound items slightly marked or spotted.
