Catalogue Note

Mabel Dickinson was an Irish actress of good background with whom Yeats began an affair with in 1907; she conveniently moved in 1908 nearby him on Nassau Street. She took part with Years in various spiritiualist experiments (he brought her into Golden Dawn); there was a pregnancy scare in 1913 and Yeats continued to visit her until he died. Yeats was still much involved with her in  1909. Yeats first wrote 1908 and changed the '8' to a '9' in this inscription, and if Wade is right on the publication date (March, 1910), this must have been a pre-publication copy.
