Catalogue Note

From 1903 onward, almost all of W.B. Yeats' new poetry and much of his prose was first published in small editions by the Dun Emer or Cuala Presses, giving him the opportunity to make revisions before the work was exposed to a wider audience through London publication.  There can be little doubt that this arrangement helped him to build the international reputation which culminated in the award of the Nobel Prize in 1923. The collection documents the development of his writing from the early lyric love poetry, which first made his name, to the tougher work, more engaged with real life, on which his mature reputation largely rests.
