first edition, number 731 of 1000 copies, of which this is one of 750 copies on hand-made paper, 4to, half-title, first leaf (of 2) of Sylvia Beach's prospectus tipped onto half-title, altered by her hand to read "Ulysses by James Joyce is now ready" and with a small picture of Joyce tipped onto the verso, twentieth-century three-quarter morocco gilt over buckram, original blue paper wrappers bound in, top edge gilt, others uncut, the wrappers laid down and repaired, binding faded in places and a bit soiled at foot of spine
