TYPED LETTER SIGNED, TO LENNOX ROBINSON
explaining that he has already returned the letters to Robinson and worrying that they have been lost, continuing that "I submitted the letters to Miss [W]eaverwho [sic] at first wished all mention of herself to be cancelled", but who has with Joyce's encouragement agreed that her name should instead be replaced by her initials, with a postscript noting a footnote demanded by Sylvia Beach, 1 page, 4to, 192 Rue de Grenelle, Paris, 6 November 1930, rust staining from paper clips

Catalogue Note

Lennox Robinson (1886-1958), was an Irish playwright and theatre director who wrote 22 plays for the Abbey Theatre, where he was also manager and producer-director. He also edited a number of works including Further Letters of J. B. Yeats (1920) and Lady Gregory's Journals (1946). Joyce had returned the letters referred to here to the Abbey Theatre before 22 October (see Letters of James Joyce, III, p.205), and they seem to show that Robinson was planning to publish a work that was to include letters by Joyce and his circle. No record of any such publication edited by Robinson has been found; perhaps Joyce's concern that the letters had been lost was justified.

For books inscribed by W.B. Yeats to Lennox Robinson, see lots 178 and 190.
