  • A GRANITE TORSO OF THE VIZIER MENTUHOTEP
  • Height 16 in.; 40.7 cm
from a life-size statue of Mentuhotep seated in the pose of a scribe, finely inscribed in sunk relief on the shoulders and chest 'Mentuhotep, servant of the two (royal) children (male and female) of Horus, overseer of seal-bearers, priest of the nose of Anubis, priest of the radiance of the lords(?),' the folds of his ample belly indicated, the nipples in relief, remains of a kilt at the waist, the inscriptions perhaps added in the New Kingdom.
