first edition, very rare. Anders Chydenius (1729-1803), a country parson from western Finland, was one of the most important intellectual forebears of Adam Smith. However, his work was long consigned to obscurity due its being written in Swedish. "Chydenius more completely than anyone up to the time of Adam Smith, and in more sustained fashion, attacked mercantilism in all of its major manifestations, attached it root and branch" (C.G. Uhr, Anders Chydenius 1729-1803. A Finnish predecessor to Adam Smith, 1963).
