Catalogue Note

The military events protocolled in this remarkable manuscript begin in the year following the decisive defeat by an army of Poles, Austrians and Germans under Jan Sobieski of the Turkish forces at Vienna (12 September 1683). Two notable events in the later campaign to drive the Turks from Hungary are recorded in graphic detail here, namely the Capture of Buda (2 September 1686) and the Capture of Belgrade (6 September 1688).
