Catalogue Note

scarce first edition. An important work in the history of vulcanology, this catalogue provides one of the earliest descriptions of the rocks and minerals of Vesuvius. At the end is a 14-page bibliography of early works on vulcanology. Ferdinando Galiani (1728-1787)  was a Neapolitan envoy to France and also wrote on economic subjects such as money and the grain trade (see lot 87).
