Catalogue Note

rare first edition of voltaire's only work on economics. Written as a criticism of the physiocracts and the work of Le Mercier de la Rivière in particular, it was sufficiently controversial to be condemned and ordered to be burned by Parliament in 1768. An English translation was published in the same year.
