Colours: The colours in the catalogue illustration are fairly accurate, although the overall tonality is much fresher and brighter in the original, and the catalogue illustration fails to convey the glossiness of the bird. Condition: This work is in very good condition. The areas of paper collage lift at intervals along the edges and there is a slight undulation in places which is intrinsic to the artist's intended textural effect. There is a fine layer of dust, particularly to the recesses and the areas of glossy black paint. There is a small patch of craquelure to an area of red impasto towards the centre of the lower left edge. The exposed areas of white paper, particularly to the lower half of the composition, show signs of discoloration as a result of the oil paint surrounding it, this is intrinsic to the artist's choice of material. There are staples throughout securing the collage areas to the canvas. No restoration is apparent under ultraviolet light.
