Condition

Colours: The colours in the catalogue illustration are fairly accurate although the overall tonality is softer with the yellow sky tending more towards misty rose in the original. Condition: This work is in very good condition and is protected beneath a thin layer of varnish. There is minor wear and tiny specks of paint loss to all four corners of the canvas and in places along the extreme bottom, left and right edges of the work. There is slight undulation to the canvas in places along the extreme bottom edge and also above the lower left corner. There is a vertical feather craquelure approximately 4 cm in length towards the lower right hand corner with three tiny associated specks of paint loss adjacent to it. There is another faint feather crack towards the centre of the upper right quadrant, and several very fine craquelures beneath the clouds in the upper centre of the composition. There are two very faint parallel cracks across the centre-right of the second right hand cloud. The paint surface if uneven in places throughout, as is inherent to the artist's choice of medium. There is an area of minute craquelure towards the lower right corner, with several tiny specks of associated paint loss. There are four faint rub marks to the area of sky; one to the upper right quadrant, and one to the left of this, approximately 10cm. in from the top left corner. When examined under ultra-violet, there are several small areas which fluoresce in the sky, which would appear to be retouching.
