Catalogue Note

"I displayed... [The Sugar Children] in a tiny back room of a friend's gallery in SoHo. The New York Times wrote a nice review about it, and a few weeks later I was invited to be part of the 1997-98 New Photography show at the Museum of Modern Art. Today, those sugar portraits are in the collections of some major museums, as well as in the library of the little school the children attended in St. Kitts. I owe my career to those children. As I examined my efforts, for the first time ever I felt they were something to be really proud of."  - Vik Muniz (Exh. Cat., Miami Art Museum, Vik Muniz: Reflex, 2006-2008, p. 60)
