Catalogue Note

"Caro's table sculptures mark the emergence of a sense of scale for which there is no precedent in earlier sculpture. And although it seems clear that our conviction on this score relates intimately to the fact that in everyday life smallish objects such as one would be inclined to grasp and handle tend to be found on tables - within easy reach - rather than on the ground, it is also true that we encounter nothing quite like the abstract smallness of Caro's table sculptures in our ordinary experience of the world. From this point of view, an ontological one, the table sculptures are endlessly fascinating."
