Condition

This work is in very good and sound condition overall. Please note that the top Plexiglas panel is temporary and will be replaced with the proper colored and authentic Plexiglas by Peter Ballantyne from the Donald Judd Foundation shortly after the sale. The temporary Plexiglas is slightly too dark. The bottom Plexiglas panel is original. Please note the correct designation for this lot should read: Property of the Akron Art Museum.

Catalogue Note

"The particularly soft forms which the light and the color reflexes take allow the sharp edges of the metal to manifest themselves all the more clearly and contribute the rhythm of their constructive divisions to the whole.  It becomes apparent that the entire "inner life" of the work[s] is comprised of reflections of the light which the characteristics of the aluminum have purified and distilled to pure qualities of luministy and color.  In spite of this, the valence of form, color and material is equal..."

Donald Judd firsted used this single unit form in DSS 74 executed in 1965 with yellow Plexiglas.  Dark grey amber Plexiglas is an uncommon color of Plexiglas seldom found in Judd's sculptures, adding to the rarity and historical significance of the present work.
