Condition

This work is in very good and sound condition overall. There is evidence of cracking in the painted background, visible in the illustration of the work. The horizontal wooden element at the base of the left glass stem is affixed to the box construction; however, the blue/green marble (visible between the second glass from the right and the far right glass in the illustration) moves freely within the box. There is some wear to the outer edges of the wood construction which is consistent with the working method of the artist. Please note the additional provenance for this work: prior to being at Pace Gallery, the work was with Stable Gallery, New York, then consigned by a private collector to auction at Park Bernet, New York, April 5, 1967, lot 45 and purchased by a private collector.
