Condition

Colours: The colours are fairly accurate in the catalogue illustration, although the hues of the backdrop tends more towards a very pale cool white-mint green in the original. The strokes of green throughout the lower horzonmtal section tend more towards a slightly brighter green in the original. Condition: The work is in very good condition. There are two very small bumps to the stretcher beneath the canvas. There is some minor shrinkage to the green pigment on the lower left side of the composition, and a few fine surface cracks, some with raised edges, to the same area of paint and to the horizontal stroke beneath. There are a few scattered matrices of drying craquelure to the green paint on the right side of the composition. There are two very small media accretions to the left of the bottom of the wheel and directly beneath the wheel. Very pale minor handling marks are visible to the right extreme edge and there is a faint stretcher mark to the far left side of the upper edge. There is an intermittent rub mark line to the right side of the lower extreme edge. Upon close examination there is a very small chip of paint loss to the bttom of the lettering on the left side of the composition. Sand is adhering to the centre of the left extreme edge and to the side edge in the same place, original to the work's execution. There are a few scattered very pale media accretions visible to the left vertical side and in places elsewhere, also original to the work's execution. No restoration is apparent under ultraviolet light.
