Condition
Colours:
The colours are fairly accurate in the catalogue illustration, although the overall tonality is slightly richer in the original. The canvas ground tends more towards creamy pale beige, the standing figure's top more to turquoise blue, and his orange trousers more to peach in the original.
Condition:
The work is in very good condition. There are a few minor handling marks around the extreme edges. Each of the four corners are very slightly rubbed and there are a number of minor media accretions: to the left of the profile in the lower right corner, and to the centre of the lower extreme edge. Extremely fine and stable hairline tension cracks are visible upon close inspection to the extreme overturn edges. There is some very light discolouration and surface dirt to the light canvas ground, in particular to the lower left and right quadrants and in places around the edges. There is a small repaired canvas tear to the left of the standing figure's right foot which has been stabilised verso: a small area of discolouration around the tear is visible recto. Under ultraviolet light there is a small line of retouching to the top part of the left extreme edge and further small spots of retouching at intervals along the left extreme edge. The pigment to the repaired tear fluoresces slightly under ultraviolet light.
